Revelation In Glass - A Taste of Africa
United Kingdom
Renovat Destiny Itangishaka Moody I am an African born artist from Burundi, a country based in the heart of Africa. Now I am a British citizen, and have recently completed my BA (Hons) in 3D Designs at Plymouth College of Art. My practice is focused on glass-blowing. Glass blowing is challenging, but yet mentally stimulating as it involves a lot of technical processes. In my work I intend to use various techniques to add colour applications, in order to achieve the desired African flavour within my work. I gain a lot of pleasure in designing and creating something new and unique that is influenced by my strong African cultural heritage. I have been using half of the sales from my glass work to buy cows which live on my family land in Burundi. My aim is to continue buying cattle and breeding them on a larger scale. When the cows have calves, some of the milk yield will be given to people in the locality. My goal next year is to begin growing food on a greater scale and use the money from the sales of each harvest to buy more land and cattle. The aim is to give a percentage of the food of every harvest away free to people who have no food in order to help fight poverty. So far I have been focusing on helping single mothers and their children. I aim to one day operate on a more commercial scale and help provide employment so my people can have the chance of a better standard of living. I plan to continue using the money from my glass sales to fuel my Africa project.
It gives me the freedom to express my inner creativity.
